Meteor Crater Wind study

*10/28/13 evening

During the summer  a wind study was taking place here at Meteor Crater!
Last night the group invited the meteor crater employees to come to the trailer located behind the crater to understand what they are researching.  Great team of people. Unfortunately do to heavy winds only 4 of us showed up. The group will be packing up this coming week.
Lots of equipment is being used. Three towers in the area. Many sensors placed around the rim and inside the crater.  A team would go into the crater before dark and stay overnight before coming back out in the AM.

The team of people are from ASU, The University of Utah, Unv of Germany and several other groups are all a part of this study titled METCRAX II.  A  piece of equipment used during the experiment,  is a wind Lidar.  It shoots out a laser that is scattered by aerosols and cloud droplets in the atmosphere.  The back scattered signal is then received by the Lidar, giving the operator a look at the wind speed!  For more information on this study go to: http://www.inscc.utah.edu/~whiteman/metcrax2
