Sunday 1/30
Heard about these sculptures at the Geocching Event in Ocottilo Wells. Did the 15 mile drive
to Borrego Springs. Of course near each site was a geocache.
A series of Borrego steel artworks by Ricardo Breceda.
These sculptures, commissioned by Dennis Avery, are placed all over the desert floor of Borrego Springs and range from eagles to mastodons, to dinosaurs. Maps are available at the linked web site and well worth the day it will take to see all of them.

Jan 28 - 30 thur > sun Ocotillo Wells CA
Second annual Geocaching event- Roughneck Rendezvous
Over 300 geocachers participating in this desert event. Just awesome. Very organize.
Arrived thur late afternoon. Setup camp with some of the people from Yuma. By friday afternoon we
had 12 rigs in our group. Thur eve we enjoyed a big camp fire. Friday, I spent 4-5 hours with Wayne/Becky & Robert geocaching. Some wild rides in Wayne's Jeep '03 liberty. In the
afternoon we had to get register. A buffet dinner at camp with a nice fire. Went to the
Ranger's station for a lecture on Ocotillo Wells history.
Saturday 7am. The event started with the firing of a cannon. Then to the booth to get the
co-ordinates down loaded into your GPS. Over 100 caches and a book. Each page had a puzzle containing 9 caches. 10 puzzle pages plus some earth caches and in Park exibits. At the end of the day your book was turned in and you were awarded tickets for your finds. That evening tickets were drawn for the prizes. Some prizes were worth hundreds of dollars. After that a movie was schedule but for me it was getting late and cold. So back to the RV camp.
Sunday- had breakfast with Bob/Judy & don/sally in B& J RV. Getting windy so our buffet breakfast was cancelled. After breakfast we took off to do some other caches in the area. Came back about 1pm (wind slowed down) and had lunch. The group was breaking camp. I decided to go to Borrego springs. Next blog. Returned about 5:30. Getting windy again.
Great, fun weekend.
