On the Range 12/30 fri

Friday 12/30/10
Thirty mile trip (1 way) into the desert on the Barry Goldwater Range. The BGR is a military training area which requires a Permit. Three vehicles and 6 of us entered the range from the Foothills (Yuma) about 9:45am. Our gold was to check out the Tinajas altas Pass and do some geocaching. Cool day with sun and a little wind. The dirt/sandy road is really very good. Going in & out of desert washes. Came across 5 Border Patrol vehicles which two of them stopped us to find out our destination since we would be getting close to the Mexican border. At the Pass entrance we stopped for lunch. BBQ hot dogs with all the goodies. The Pass will take u thru the mountains, placing one into the Welton area. We will come back on another day to go all the way. So we turned around and continue doing geocaching. Fun day with friends. We found 21 geocaches. Finish at 5:30pm

About 10 mi in we stopped to take some pictures
A little further down, stopped to take in the sights of Yokaville which a military training town consisted of train box cars for buildings. One cannot go there.

Mmmm tire at the base. Our book indicated the tire was placed around the catcus many many years ago.
Just great views
