On the Range 12/30 fri

Friday 12/30/10
Thirty mile trip (1 way) into the desert on the Barry Goldwater Range. The BGR is a military training area which requires a Permit. Three vehicles and 6 of us entered the range from the Foothills (Yuma) about 9:45am. Our gold was to check out the Tinajas altas Pass and do some geocaching. Cool day with sun and a little wind. The dirt/sandy road is really very good. Going in & out of desert washes. Came across 5 Border Patrol vehicles which two of them stopped us to find out our destination since we would be getting close to the Mexican border. At the Pass entrance we stopped for lunch. BBQ hot dogs with all the goodies. The Pass will take u thru the mountains, placing one into the Welton area. We will come back on another day to go all the way. So we turned around and continue doing geocaching. Fun day with friends. We found 21 geocaches. Finish at 5:30pm

About 10 mi in we stopped to take some pictures
A little further down, stopped to take in the sights of Yokaville which a military training town consisted of train box cars for buildings. One cannot go there.

Geocache Containers here Yuma/Foothills.
Thought I would share my geocaching fun. The following containers I have placed (hide) for other geocachers to find. Here's five new ones I have placed in the last week. Each container contains a log sheet for the finder to sign. They all have been found. Each one has a title created by me. You can click on the picture to enlarge it then backspace to come back to the original.

Tilte: M for mmmm good. Its a plastic round container that looks like a M & M. It was filled with MM's

Title: Wilderness gourmet. Name on the label of this round tin. Placed on the BG Range.

Title: Foothill Village. Hard to see. Container is a 1" tube wrapped in duct tape and place in the center of the bush.

Title: Ten-E Name refers to the location. Ave 10E which goes onto a dirt road to a bush. This 2" tube is just hanging on branch.

Title: Wally World. Placed besides the Wal Mart store off of 32st. Container is a magnetic key box put under the top part of the drainage.

Title: Rockable. Container is a key box which looks like a rock. This one take some searching per the comments on the geocaching web page.

Title: Happy Holidays. Neat container filled with pine cones and colored oraments. The log sheet is inside Mr Peanuts. Getting lots of fun comments.

geocaching-BG Range 12/19

Sundday 12/19
Trip to the Berry Goldwater Range to do geocaching. Morning weather was cool but sunny. Drove a few miles to meet up with Bill (geo name: foothillbill). We took the Terex ATV for the 7 mile ride into the range. There was a new series of caches call "Snow White" (seven caches). Ride is so cool. Traveling on the dirt road and going thru different desert washes. We finally reached Post B6 to starting are searching. Encounterd a Boader Patrol guy asking what we doing so far out here. Explained about geocaching. Found all seven caches plus a few more. Came across another team of gecachers. We found a total of 21 caches in four hours. Fun Day.
