geocaching-Mormon Lake area 6/29 tue

Tuesday 6/29
Headed to Munds Park off of I-17 south of Flagstaff. The goal was to travel thru this area to Mormon lake. A 10mi drive on a forest service road. We attempted this one last week but got a flat tire on the jeep and had to go back to Flagstaff. The drive thru the forest was beautiful. A liitle light rain with some thunder. Stopped for some geocaches along the way. Went to serveral campgrounds along Mormon lake- very nice. Then back onto Lake Mary road to Flagstaff with a stop at the Pinegrove campground which was awesome. I talked to the camp host. Then back to the RV park late in the day.

Trip to Out of Africa mon 6/28

Monday 6/8 Headed to camp verde off of I-17 to see the wildlife park called Out of Africa. On the pricy side but well worth it. After one purchases a ticket you get on a tram/bus to take a ride thru the natural habitats. About an hour trip seeing all kinds of animals. Then you get on another type open tram to the Tiger splash show. Here the tigers chase after toys and land in the water with the trainers. Very nice. Then trip to the Gift shop for a purchase.
From here did some geocahcing in the area and then to the Cliff Casino near by .... yes won a little :) For more info on the park go to http://www.outofafricapark.com/

Munds Park Hike tue 6/22

Headed out to Munds Park off I-17. Good looking homes in this hilly area with a golf course. Our first stop was to find a geocache. The hard part was trying to get down to the creek with out crossing over private property. Then a quick stop to the next cache on a small lake in the area. From here we drove out onto a dirt road called FS240 or Mormon lake Rd. Our goal was to get to the lake about 14 miles. Again a stop at a trail head called Crystal Trail. Nice hike up the hill with great views and we picked up 3 more caches. Back onto the road. A stop at a meadows of aspens trees - neat. Returning to the jeep we noted that the rear tire was flat. After changing the tire we headed back to Flagstaff (about 3pm) to see if Big O could fix the tire. I just purchased new tires the previous week. In and out in 20 min. Didn't get to Mormon lake. A late lunch before heading back to the RV park. Fun day.
