Oatman AZ 5/13

After leaving Laughlin NV took a side trip to Oatman. A little mining town in the mountains. The road is the old Route 66. The town is now known for the donkeys that walked the street. Because I was there before 10am most of the shops were not open. Traveling east on Rt 66, the road turns and twists thru the mountains. Nice scenery.

Laughlin NV 5/11-12

Using my days off from Meteor Crater, drove a 2.5 hr trip to Laughlin. Stayed at Harrah's casino which was cheap . Twenty-two $$ a day. Took a trip on the River. Visit other casino's. Make a little money , enough to pay for the lodging and playing the penny slot machine. Fun.

Bill & Chuck's visit to Meteor Crater 5/17

May 17-20
Bill & Chuck (from Yuma) arrived on sunday. The next couple of days we tour some of
Flagstaff and did some geocaching. They planned to do a 4 month summer RV ing, going north to OR,WA and into Canada.

Wallnut canyon Rim tour 5/19

From the Visitor center one can walk along the rim of the canyon. Here we saw some flowers and yes a small snake. On the way back we inquired about it--- Ringneck snake.

Early this morning Bill/Chuck and I set out for Walnut Canyon. We hike down to the area where you can walk 1 mile called the loop. Then back up the steep climb.

The Sinalagua people lived in this area before 1250. The canyon rim provided the cliffside homes. The dwellings were made from the shallow caves eroded out of the limestone cliffs. Walls were built using limestone rocks then cemented them together with a gold colored clay. Finally the walls were plastered with clay inside and out.

Andy & Marie-Visit 5/5

Andy and Marie (from TX) came up from Yuma to the Meteor Crater for a visit. I played tour guide, going to Flagstaff. Weather was good. Fun times.
