geocaching at Kachina village 4/26

Tue 4/26
A new cache came out this morning and decided since I was going to Flagstaff anyway I would try for this one. Had to go south of Flagstaff on I-17 about 7 mi to an exit called Kachina village. There's a gas station & mini-mart. Following my GPS I travelled around a hill coming onto a cool community of houses. Found the parking spot for the trail head called Pumphouse trail. There's pump facility for getting water from the canyon to the houses. Hiked on the trail .5 to the cache. Ran into other people with their dogs. Really neat spot- a running creek. Found the cache and was happy to see that I was the first one there (known as FTF-first to find).
After this nice adventure, back to Flagstaff to see a movie called Ocean. It was great.

To Phoenix/snow 4/21

Tue & Wed 4/20-21
Went to Phoenix on tuesday afternoon. Wanted to see a film/opera at the Harkins theathre off of I-17 at 7pm. The opera was LL Trovatore. It was filmed at a opera house in Spain. It was great. Filmed on stage and the music was so good. Had to read up on it before going. Neat story. After the performance I stayed at a Motel6. The next day I did some geocaching in the morning . On the way back I stopped at the Cliff casino and picked up $50. Left there about 2pm and as I was traveling north to Flagstaff it started to rain- then snow and more snow. Wow. Got onto I-40 at Flagstaff and continue east without snow. Then about 3 miles to my exit 233 I see all these cars and trucks not moving. Called 511- yes I-40 was closed. Sat there from 3:30 to 6 pm. Hwy was closed do high winds beyond ex 235 to Winslow. This is the 3rd time in 3 weeks. Oh well but my first sitting out there.

geocaching to Strawberry 4/13

Tuesday 4/13. We decided to go to Strawberry, AZ. You take hwy 87 to Payson from Winslow. Takes about an hour. Our first stop was near turn off 260. A little walk to the cache area. Then into Strawberry and hiked the popular strawberry trail. Nice and easy. From there to an old school house in town. Very educational. Then back to the RV park..

our first stop
second stop
Small hike to cache. We had to walk thru the snow to the cache area. Very interesting because it was a marker in memory(1980) of Brian Miller a teenage boy who's family still lives in Flagstaff.

movie and wind monday 4/5

The four of us went into Flagstaff to see the 10am movie "Clash of the Titans". Not that great. Like the original one (1981) better. After the movie we went to Hastings book store and bought the old version and other movies. The wind was getting so bad on I-40. Back here at the RV about 2p and at 2:30p the I-40 was shut down. Car accidents and visibility was zero do to dust blowing across the road between here and Winslow. The RV park was filling up and the store parking lot was packed. I-40 finally open at 7pm. We played mexican train and then watched the movie.

Grand Falls wed /24

Off to see the Grand falls also known as the Choc falls. About a 40mi trip from Meteor Crater RV park heading west to Winnoa exit. I was here last Sept '09 when there was no water. Enjoy the pictures it was an awesome sight. Lots of other cars seeing the view. Click picture to enlarge.
Directions:
Off of I-40, exit 211 to Winnoa. Turned onto Lupp and travel about 20mi. You will see a sign "Grand Falls Church", turned on to dirt road. Its about 10mi to river on Navajo reservation land.

The only sign that tells one to turn onto the dirt road which is about a 10mi trip to the river.

Fast flowing river. Last yr one could drive across it.

Parked on top of the hill. Time to leave.
