Trip to Williams az

tuesday 5/25
Left early to drive to Williams about 30mi west of Flagstaff. Parked at the train depot where one can catch the famous ride to the Grand canyon. Walked a short distance to the historical part of Williams which has so much history. Founded by Bill Williams in 1881. I walked around doing my geocaching, found 6 of them, and learning the history of the of the town. Had lunch at Pancho's near the railroad tracks. More walking and a visit to the Visitor Center. Weather was perfect, sun and no wind. Got back onto the I-40 and headed east to exit 167 to check out an area for hiking next time. Lots of geocaches in an area call Dogtown lake. Nice drive thur the forest but the distance was going to be 8mi on a dirt road so I only did a couple miles. Will do this next time. Back at the RV park about 4:30. Then to the crater to play mexican train with Summer & Toni.

Heading to the old part of Williams. Stopped for a geocache on pole.

Walked a short distance to a water hole. Then started my search. Well hidden under some rocks. Enjoyed the view before returning back to the RV

Hiking/geocaching 5/18 tue

5/18 tuesday. Before heading out, I notice there was two new geocaches in the Flagstaff area. Thought I could try for a FTF (first to find). The first one was located off I-40/Butler. Took me into a new area (dirt road into the forest). The co-ord's were off about a 100ft but found it do to the title "In the rocks" . Then travel into Flagstaff near NAU campus. Got another FTF. Since it was about noon drove a short distance to old flagstaff to get a hamburger called Diablo Burger in Heritage square. Small place but great burgers. A hang out for the college kids. From there went to the lake Mary area for a small hike (about 3mi of hiking) to get a geocache. About a mile into the hike had to climb down a hill into the canyon. Saw a nice trail near the cache which turned out to be the Arizona trail. Then headed back to the RV park for the BBQ.

Camp Verde trip 5/17 mon

5/17 monday. Drove to Camp verde (off I-17, hwy 260). Wanted to see Fort Verde(1865). The museum was great. Spent over an hour there. Of course geocaching was involved- had to find in the museum answers to four questions. These numbers then were converted into gps co-ord's which later took me about 2 mi from there to find the cache and log my find. Did about 4 more goecaches in the area. since I was so close to the Cliff casino, stopped there for a couple hours. Then back to Flagstaff for dinner at sizzler. After that went to the 7:15pm movie to see Robin Hood which was good. Back to the RV about 10:30pm. Fun long day.

Heavy winds 5/11 tue

Wow what a day. Winds started about 6am here at the RV park. At 730am we loss power. Then hwy I-40 closed down about 10am until 530pm. During the day we had wind gusts of 77 mph. Dirt/sand was just pounding away on the RV. Not fun. Power finally came back on about 1:30. Winds started to slow down about 3 pm and then stopped about 6pm.

Sedona tue 5/10

Nice sunny day for a trip to Sedona. Left here about 9:30am and travel down 89A. Love this drive. The trees are so green . The Oak Creek area is just like a painting. On one of the curves we stopped (nice pull out for the jeep) for me to find a geocache. Hard one but got it and it turned out to be a "first to find". From there we continue the drive into Sedona. After some window shopping we had lunch on the main street. Continue again onto Hwy 179 to the famous Tlaquepaque-- art shops. The landscaping is really something to see. Traveling again for another stop for a geocache at a tourist area that had all kinds of stuff to see. Then onto I-17. Stopped at the Cliff Castle casino for an hour before returning to Meteor Crater RV park.
